In alignment with Swami Vivekananda’s thought “You cannot hope to make a man a surgeon by simply giving him a few books; He must have actual experience”
JEM foundation schools aim at providing quality education to the potential segment of students of our city. JUSCO schools were established with the view of providing the best learning environment to the students with lessons as invigorating and inspiring as a place they look forward to going to and places they hate to leave. a place they will come to know themselves as masters of various science art and crafts... that ...they will come to love the process of learning itself... by making it their own thus making it a lifelong learning.
A team of five members from JUSCO and JEM Foundation visited SVYM Exploratory ,Saragur ,Mysore, Karnataka in the month of May,2016 for a first hand experience and training by Mr.Praveen Sayyaparaju, SVYM. The first site visit took place in the month of June 2016. The plan, layout and design of the science park was approved in the month of August 2016. Fabrication and construction began soon after. The layout of the park is decided by JEM Foundation based on the options provided by SVYM on the thematic arrangement of equipment ,construction of footpath, beautification ,tree plantation etc. After a rigorous work of about five months by JUSCO , technical assistance by SVYM , monitoring and testing of equipment by JEM foundation ,the park took its final shape and was ready for inauguration.
The JUSCO SVYM Exploratorium, spread over 1 acre in the JUSCO School South Park premises ,is an attempt to make science education more experiential, bridging the gap between curriculum and daily life . Digitization has opened a vast world of information for children but science is not a mere collection of facts but its experiencing learning. This science park includes 48 outdoor interactive equipment, for hands on learning approach. The life size models illustrating Science principles provide a way for students to explore Science, to question and arrive at an answer themselves. Scientific principles will no longer be a rocket science for our inquisitive minds. Most of the designs of the equipment are open source and universal. There is enough circulation space for visitors. The park can have around 60 students visiting the park at a time with not more than 15 students assembling near one of the equipment.
A map of the park ,with necessary safety signage and other display boards serves as a guide and make it easier to reach a particular equipment without wasting any time.
A Compendium on the Exploratorium is designed to provide an in-depth account of each and every equipment. It gives detailed information about the principles, method of usage, interesting approach to each equipment and its application in the real world. Each model has a description board beside it with the Science principles it illustrates. For children who have no access to any Science museum unless they visit any metropolitan city, this handbook on park is a wonderful aid to understand Science in a way that they will remember forever.
JUSCO Exploratorium is one of its kinds in the state of Jharkhand. With education at its best in Jamshedpur, this will add another feather to the cap of the city schools. The three schools of the JEM Foundation have mapped each and every experiment in the science park, intricately in their curriculum and planned their visits to the park. The activities and projects in their science textbook lesson will feature in the annual split up syllabus of the school. An activity Calendar for the visits to the park has been framed so that each theoretical concept is backed with a practical experience. Every science teacher will undergo a Capacity Building Training at the beginning of the academic session.
The park will be open to other schools also. Booking of the Science Park visit can be made through JEM Foundation. Capacity Building training for teachers from other schools will also be organized.
JEM Foundation takes pride in pioneering this innovative Science Exploratorium ,which is one of its kind in the entire state.
Yet another milestone achieved by my school !!!
JSSP feels accomplished on setting up an innovative Science Exploratorium in its campus. The first ever Science Park in the state of Jharkhand was inaugurated by D. K. Mehrotra, Director, Tata Steel, along with Mrs Sunita Mehrotra and Ashish Mathur, MD, JUSCO at JUSCO School South Park. The concept of the park is derived from (Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement) SVYM Exploratory ,Saragur ,Mysore, Karnataka. The entire Science Park has been set up with joint effort of JUSCO, Tata Steel, JEM Foundation and SVYM (Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement)
Spread over one acre , the. Science Park at Jusco School South Park aims to develop scientific temper in students. 46 scientific equipment in the science park has succeeded to bring science outdoor outside the textbooks and classrooms. The objective of this park to help school children learn the basic principles of science in an experiential way.Students will now get a much better conceptual understanding of the principles and its applications. It is aimed at evoking their curiosity by challenging them to find answers by
Proud to share that almost 90% of the items displayed inside the science park is made from scrap iron and steel materials
Congratulations to team JUSCO,JEM Foundation team and all my teachers and students involved in this huge project .A lot of effort and struggle has gone into putting these models together and more importantly in making them work.
The Science Park will be accessible to school children across the city. During the inauguration the models were explained and demonstrated by my students.
